5.7 vortec intake manifold12/16/2023 Make sure you get the one that is supplied by 4 AA batteries instead of a battery pack and charger. It may be due to gaskets, or it may be because there is no longer a heat riser port in the middle of the intake like on pre 86 small blocks (it may act like an anchor point, reducing gasket slippage).Īlthough if you plan on buying ANY borescope, buy this one instead, it has a dramatically smaller head so that you can feed it down spark plug holes if you want to: For some reason, there seems to be an increase of gasket slippage on intake runners within the last 10-15 years. This is to make sure the gaskets of the intake runners haven't slipped, causing a leak on those intake runners. In all of these instances of intake gaskets, I now make a practice of using a borescope (or digital inspection camera) to look down all of the intake runners. That pretty much goes for anything they make.Įdelbrock Gaskets are usually OK, as long as you are careful to use Permatex #2 non hardening sealer on them (all over).įel Pro is OK if you use silicone around the cooling ports, and you put an extra dab of silicone at the corners of the intake valley pan rails. Gasket unless you absolutely have no other choice. Reason for edit: No reason given.ĭon't use Mr. I've also heard people say not to use the rubber option for the gasket?Įdited by BenJass on 09-26-15 01:55 PM. PS* I did torque everything (50-100-132) in the right sequence. I just need some expert opinions on what to do in this situation. I work at Napa so I have access to all different gasket types for this. Should I use rtv at all around the water ports? I've gotten mixed reviews on this. What would be the best gasket to use? OEM? Fel-Pro? I see edelbrock makes a composite material for there's? Obviously I've put a bead of Black RTV on the front and rear walls (and yes, I overlapped the gasket in all 4 corners). I put a bit of silicon on the bottom and top of the gaskets around the water ports to try and fill in the pitting. So I've used Fel-pro PermaDryPlus the first time and there regular rubber gaskets the second. There's an access amount of pitting around the coolant ports. I just have a few questions regarding what gasket to use and about RTV. I'm fine with the overall process of the job, it's not hard. Second time it sealed for about a month, however it started leaking on the back walls. First time, I didn't properly seat the gasket and it blocked intake port. I've done the intake gaskets on this twice now, I do enjoy doing this work but I'm having trouble with the sealing.
